Healthcare providers are responsible for distributing current Vaccine Information Statements (VIS) to patients or parents/legal guardians of patients before a vaccine is administered. Vaccine Information Statements explain the benefits and risks of a vaccine and are prepared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
New and updated Vaccine Information Statement (VIS)
On February 4 the CDC issued two VIS sheets for:
- Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine –The new pneumococcal conjugate VIS includes all currently available pneumococcal conjugate vaccines that now cover (PCV13, PCV15, and PCV20). This interim VIS replaces the previous PCV13 VIS.
- Recombinant zoster (shingles) vaccine – The updated VIS incorporates the expanded indications for this vaccine for adults age 19 years or older who are immunocompromised because of disease or treatment for a disease.
The CDC encourages providers to begin using these VISs immediately, but printed stocks of the previous editions may be used until exhausted.
