As the 2025 flu season intensifies, healthcare providers are facing a surge in cases, increased hospitalizations, and growing concerns about severe complications.
CDC Updates
According to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, flu activity remains high across the country, with 29 million reported illnesses, 370,000 hospitalizations, and 16,000 flu-related deaths so far this season. Pediatric flu deaths continue to climb, reaching 68 for the 2024-2025 flu season as of February 8. The CDC recommends routine annual influenzas for all persons aged ≥6 months who do not have contraindications.
Vaccination Efforts
Vaccination remains a crucial tool in combating respiratory illnesses. As flu cases continues to surge, it is essential for individuals to protect themselves and their communities by getting vaccinated.
- Encouraging Flu Shots – Providers should continue emphasizing the importance of vaccination, particularly for high-risk groups such as older adults, immunocompromised individuals, and pregnant women.
- Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy – Misinformation and skepticism remain barriers. Providing clear, evidence-based messaging can help improve uptake.
The CDC also provides vaccination resources like the childhood and adult schedules for providers to share with patients and families to reinforce the importance of staying up to date with their vaccinations. CPP’s purchase ordering guide is another helpful resource to keep your practice on track with ordering routine and seasonal vaccines.
