The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released the 2025 immunization schedules for child & adolescent and adults. Below is a summary of the changes.
Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule Update and Changes:
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Recommendations for 2024-2025 include at least one dose for all infants aged 6 months and older. Additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine may be recommended for individuals with immunocompromised status.
- Influenza Vaccine: The influenza vaccine for the 2024-2025 season has transitioned from a quadrivalent to a trivalent formulation. It now includes recommendations to correspond with the adult schedule, with one or two doses annually.
- RSV Vaccine: Recommendations have been updated for infants born in October through March, the ideal timing of nirsevimab administration is during the birth hospitalization. Infants born to pregnant persons who received the RSV vaccine during pregnancy should receive the RSV vaccine as well.
Adult Immunization Schedule Update and Changes:
- COVID-19 Vaccine: The 2024-2025 formula update is recommended. At least one dose is advised for individuals 19 years and older, and at least two doses for those 65 and older or those with moderate to severe immunocompromised status (6 months after the last dose).
- Influenza Vaccine: Recommended for all adults 19 years and older. The trivalent influenza vaccine is now used instead of the quadrivalent vaccine.
- Pneumococcal Vaccine: Recommended for adults aged 50 and older as a routine vaccination.
- RSV Vaccine: A single dose is recommended for adults over 75 years old. Adults aged 60-74 should be vaccinated based on their risk, including pregnant women during RSV season.
