This week the CDC approved COVID-19 vaccines for kids 5 to 11 years old. This new expansion comes just in time with school well underway and the holiday season around the corner. The COVID-19 vaccine can be given at the same times as other routine vaccines but should be done in a different injection site.
As pediatric practices prepare to receive the vaccines across the country, the CDC has planning guides and preliminary information on administering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines. Children ages 5-11 years will receive two 10-microgram doses administered three weeks apart. The dosage is one-third of the adolescent and adult dose.
